Can Tho is the fourth largest city of Vietnam and the biggest city in the Mekong Delta. The city has more than 1 million inhabitants and is developing at a very quick pace.
Most tourists visit Can Tho to visit the Mekong Delta and to see the floating markets. This is a very impressive sight to see.
It’s about a 4 hour drive from Ho Chi Minh city, so you can either take a day trip to Can Tho, or include it in your itinerary (like we did) and arrive here from Phnom Penh. The trip down the Mekong River delta is beautiful and I would certainly recommend coming from Cambodia by boat, but it is a 7 hour trip. If you are time constrained it is also possible to take a bus.
We chartered a private speedboat at Blue Cruiser. The company offers various itineraries between major cities in Vietnam and Phnom Penh and is very reliable and service minded.
Because we only had one day in Can Tho we didn’t get to see much of the surroundings. But usually people spend here a maximum of 2 days to visit, next to the Mekong Delta, the rice fields and fruit plantations.
Here are some awesome things to do in Can Tho with kids. If you follow this list you will for sure see all the major highlights of this wonderful city. Use it as a check-list. It works really well.

- Walk the Hai Ba Trung street and enjoy the many cafes and restaurants along the riverside;

Accommodation
We had two deluxe connecting rooms, with pool view. The rooms where not extremely spacious but each room could accommodate one extra bed, so perfect for the 6 of us. If you are travelling with 2 or 3 children this would be ideal. The rooms are in colonial style and very clean.
Dining
There is one restaurant and bar in the hotel serving very nice Vietnamese and International food. Breakfast (buffet) is also served in the Spices Restaurant.

Extra info
After a full day on the speedboat from Phnom Penh we were very happy to arrive at the hotel. Not because the trip wasn’t fun and extremely impressive, but it was a very relaxing and peaceful place after the constant humming of the speedboat.
The kids played in the pool while I enjoyed the fantastic spa. They have great massages (semi outdoors) and very nice pedicure/manicure treatments.
They have great other leisure activities for everyone to enjoy. And offer a free shuttle boat to town.
All in all an excellent choice when visiting Can Tho.
November – March is the best season to visit Can Tho. This is the dry season. Most rain can be expected during September and October. But actually Can Tho is a good place to visit year round.
